Hey Subscriber First Name,

We hope this letter finds you in good health and spirit! Thank you to everyone who’s listened to our Season 6 premiere, We Left Our Jobs, and shared on social or written in with their support. You all are a huge motivation behind why AsianBossGirl exists; your support means the world to us.

Whatever day of quarantine you’re on, likely you’ve felt that increasingly familiar twang of loneliness, and had moments or even days when your mood takes a massive dip. We’ve definitely felt it ourselves. While we are so darn lucky to be able to video chat and virtually connect, there’s no real substitute for physical presence, hugs, or hearing laughter in person. When things get better, we’re really looking forward to being in the same room as our loved ones (and all of you!) again.

In the meantime, maintaining connection with others, and taking care of our emotional wellbeing is vital—which is why we are excited to partner with Bumble.

Popularized as a dating app where women make the first move, Bumble is actually so much more. In a single app, you can find romantic interests, and also find new friends, and career-building connections. Perhaps most compelling, however, is how Bumble emphasizes the importance of healthy relationships with others, but also starting with oneself—which is something we also believe.

Read on to see how Bumble has impacted how our community makes connections, and for our thoughts on maintaining a healthy state of mind in the time of COVID-19.

Hugs,
Helen, Janet, & Mel

P.S. special thanks to Stephanie, @subtlesugar_studio for this issue’s amazing artwork!

Hi everyone,

With our usual way of life suspended without a clear date for revival in sight, people are finding creative ways to fill their time. As you navigate this uncertain, confusing, and surprisingly ample time, please remember, “We need not feel defensive about this apparently unproductive time-out at turning points in our lives … In the apparently aimless activity of our time alone, we are doing important inner business” (Reinventing Your Career in the Time of Coronas Virus, HBR).

In the interest of “important inner business", we wanted to offer some practical tips on taking care during the days of COVID-19:

  • Start with the basics: Sleep well. Eat well. Maintain good hygiene, even if you know no one will see you (or smell you) for a while. Yes, that includes showering!

  • Find the right balance for you in keeping up with the news. Be mindful of how much time you spend consuming news, and how you feel. Try to limit that time to just enough to stay informed, and guard yourself from “vicarious trauma”.

  • Do your best to eat food that’s nutritious and healthy for you. Food nourishes and influences our mind, body, and mood.

  • Avoid complete isolation. Use technology available to you to keep in touch with your loved ones, and consider using available platforms to help foster new relationships (platonic, professional, or romantic!). Bumble is a great resource where you can focus on one type of relationship or expand to all three within the same app.

  • Speak up: if you encounter any discrimination or wrongdoing, speak up. Report it to authorities, share with your confidantes, and if you feel comfortable, blast it on social to bring awareness to the situation.

  • Pay attention: if you notice you’re having trouble functioning in your main areas of life (e.g. occupation or studies, relationships), consider reaching out for help with a licensed professional. This can help immensely with relieving stress and feeling properly supported.

  • Seek out and cherish the activities, interactions, and moments that bring you joy.

  • For more tips, listen to our episode with Haesue Jo, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. To learn more about ABG’s partnership with online counseling provider, BetterHelp, see our Spotlight section below.

Hang in there—things will get better if we continue to do our part and stay home. Til then, let’s continue figuring how to cut our own hair until we can get a proper haircut!

Sending you love,
Haemee

Bumble is designed to help facilitate new connections, with women taking the lead. Within the same app, you can meet romantic interests with Bumble, new friends with Bumble BFF, or professional connections with Bumble Bizz.

FEATURED MERCHANDISE

The ABG Tee is a nod to the AZN subculture from the 90s, a pan-ethnicity movement that represented a positive stance on being Asian American—a sentiment that seems especially relevant today.

We wanted to pay homage to that period with this simple black tee that everyone can wear with sophistication.
