Dear Subscriber First Name,

This week, I’m (still) thinking about change, and the beauty in both the grieving and the anticipation that accompany it.

Two important women in my life recently separately shared coming-to-terms of sorts with their mortality, and their perspective on the future. My mother, nearing 70, shared her desire to solo travel to visit her high school (!) friend, saying she doesn’t know how much time she has left to do so (this is kind of a big deal given certain expectations in her and my father’s marriage). And, my oldest sister shared how being in her 40s, and, in her words, perhaps more than halfway through her life, jolted her awake and propelled her to live joyfully.

We all have something in our lives that we want to do. Perhaps you’re thinking about taking a trip, becoming a beginner again, going all-in on a dream, or starting a family (s/o Helen & Phil!). As our life experiences and choices shape who we are and how we develop, we inevitably change.

Bit by bit, or sometimes all at once, we must let go of what was to make room for what’s to come. As Helen mused, “What I’ve learned is that even the happiest of transitions come with the grief of leaving something behind. And such is life.”

Change looks and feels different for all of us. Each comes with its own emotional and spiritual journey, and I like to believe that we become a better version of ourselves as a result. So, here’s to embracing change, and life. <3
