Dear Subscriber First Name, Happy August and last month of summer :’) As we begin to feel the gradual shift in season, my mind is on change. Helen, Janet, and Mel often discuss the importance of self-awareness on the pod. Self-awareness is crucial to sensing, preparing for, navigating and weathering life’s changes. Lately, I’ve been feeling a restlessness—the kind that starts deep within. I know when change is coming because I feel it in the wind, and beneath my feet. It starts in the depths as a gentle rumble, the metaphorical tectonic plates shifting, echoing up and out to affect the shape of the water, the shape of the land. When this happens, the (challenging) thing to remember is to heed that call, and that I, you, control the sail. The alternative (at least for me) is stagnancy, then implosion. Recently, I heard Oprah say on her podcast, “nothing happens until you decide.” Y’all. This statement simultaneously inspires terror and empowerment in me. Terror because if I choose to not make a change, I can already sense how bleak the future will feel; empowerment because I know that the call is mine to make. We all have the power and the right to make that call in our lives—especially if we live somewhere the societal structures make it easy to “carpe diem” on a daily basis. (Trust, the privilege doesn’t escape me for a second.) If you’re also feeling like it’s time to make some adjustments, I hope that you prioritize what you want and need most. Time. A new view.
