Dear Subscriber First Name, How do you feel about getting older? Aging inspires a range of feelings in folks. It can feel like a mind-f*ck of a process because it is so gradual. From a young age, many (all?) of us are conditioned to dread aging, and view older people in a less-than-respected light. Negative associations with aging deepen as the years go by and physical youth continues to slip away. From what I’ve observed, these feelings can include remorse, surprise, sadness, anger, and sometimes even denial. All are valid. I wonder though, how our experience of life would change for the better if we shifted the tone of the conversation around aging to be more accepting and celebratory. How could open dialogue about how our bodies will change and how to proactively, lovingly care for our health inspire deeper connection with ourselves? How could featuring mature beauty in beauty campaigns instead of only selling the (expensive) idea of eternally supple youth shift how we feel when we see our own reflections? Imagine if gray hairs and wrinkles were widely perceived as beautiful. As each year that we’re lucky enough to live goes by, I hope we collectively take up space ever more confidently, without apology, and with an undeniable zest for life. Love,
