Happy Valentine’s Day :) While this is a commercial “holiday” and love should be celebrated throughout the year, a designated day can serve as a reminder to put in some effort.

Getting caught up in our day-to-day minutiae can make us forget to notice and appreciate small gestures—the late night dinner left on the table for us to eat after a long day, the porch light left on in anticipation of our return, little post-its of encouragement left on the mirror.

The love that fills our lives—platonic, romantic, and familial—is incredibly special. Believe it or not, the examples I shared above are actually things my parents (mom, especially) have done for me, though my ex also used to write me sweet letters. Both made my heart swell with gratitude and the fulfilling feeling of knowing you are loved.

This week, take a moment to recognize the love in your life. Take stock, and perhaps reciprocate that love however feels most authentic to your relationships.

And one more thought—when was the last time you were the source of your own happiness? One of my favorite rituals is getting a few fresh stems from my local florist to brighten up my space with colorful, fragrant life. The flowers serve as a reminder that life is beautiful and ephemeral, and to encourage moments of pause throughout my day.

Whether you’re single or in a relationship, remember to do something nice for yourself. You deserve it <3

Eating: Palitaw - This Filipino sweet rice cake is coated with shredded coconut, sugar and sesame seeds. Made with glutinous rice flour, palitaw is similar to mochi. If you love mochi as much as we do, this recipe is a must-try!!
