Dear Subscriber First Name,

May marks Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, and this year, I’m seeing more celebratory content than ever from both creators and media outlets. We love to see it!!

The ways we’re shaping our own narratives, digging into our family histories, exploring our experiences and the spectrum of emotions they evoke, and also giving ourselves permission to simply ~be~ get my heart all glowy with pride.

The past two years in particular have not been easy for our communities. In the wake of fear, pain, and anger, we intentionally dreamt up a future in which we’re safe, cultivate a supportive relationship with other BIPOC communities, and define success and wellbeing on our own terms. A future that also upholds joy.

While there’s much wisdom to glean from the challenges of the past, especially those many of our relatives undertook as immigrants in a new country, I think it’s also important to focus on experiencing joy in the present without guilt and without attachment to outcome. It’s important to learn what contentment in the present means for ourselves, and actively create space for such moments.

To exist as the fullest versions of ourselves—multifaceted people with rich thoughts, feelings, interests, and perspectives—is the resistance and the way forward. So, cheers to you, and cheers to us.
